Evolution of National Consumption chart shows the development of our natural gas consumption forecasts over time. It also displays the latest EIA forecast and the price of natural gas futures.

  • Consumption Forecast - Bluegold Research natural gas consumption forecast (running two-month total in billion cubic feet)
  • 5-day average - arithmetic average of Bluegold Research natural gas consumption forecasts over the last five updates
  • EIA forecast (STEO) - natural gas consumption forecast from the latest Short-Term Energy Outlook, published by Energy Information Administration
  • Natgas Futures Price - Henry Hub NYMEX Natural Gas Futures Price (prompt contract, close)

This chart enables the trader to view the latest consumption forecast through historical perspective. It also helps establish "associations" between the price level and the level of consumption forecast. For example, on December 29, 2016, two-month consumption forecast hit a 13-day low, whereas the price on that day was near recent highs. This particular situation represented a potential "bearish disparity", which could have served as an additional trading indicator.
