Traders' Note

Increasingly, LNG transport, in which natural gas is cooled to liquid form, transported in specialized vessels, and regasified at the destination is being used for international shipping. LNG exports are increasing, and many believe that LNG will unify disparate regional markets, rendering natural gas as global in nature as crude oil. However, the process is expensive due to the substantial infrastructure and the energy required to cool natural gas to liquid form and to keep cold over the course of weeks at sea. The below graphic provides a depiction of the LNG value chain.
